It's not just a blog, it's also a portal. They're diligent about linking to huge numbers of stories. The Huffington Post has celebrity bloggers, even though that's overstated since it's not really the celebrity writing but whatever poor sap they got writing on their behalf. On a technical level, the liberal blogs are set up in a very smart way. Liberals don't really have that, except for Air America, and that didn't fare too well. It could be because if you want opinionated chatter about the day's stories, there's already a huge pre-existing market for that, talk radio. Not even the biggest conservative bloggers get a fraction of their traffic. On my side of the aisle, we don't get the same kind of traffic as the liberal blogs. But when the story is big and bad, you have to link to it, and you have to talk about it even if it's not any kind of fun. There are times when it's really bad and you don't even want to get on the computer and even try to spin it.

During the dry spills, you can manufacture news a little bit, create some controversy or do silly news. You don't just want the news - just like any sports fan, you want to see your team win. When the team is doing poorly it's very hard to write about them. Partisan politics is a bit like following a team sport. Then I became frustrated by a certain prominent liberal blogger, who I won't mention, and I figured I could do that, it doesn't seem that hard. I didn't realize that anyone could do it, I thought you needed enormous technical skills. Everyone wanted to know things much quicker than the media could verify and report. I began reading a lot of blogs after 9/11. and even joked about what it might take to buy him off:
